How do you make government research accessible to everyone — on a website, via RSS and as a PDF?

By building one publication tool that serves all channels at the same time. That is exactly what we did for the Raad voor Volksgezondheid en Samenleving — one of the advisory bodies of the Dutch government.

What was the problem?

Research and reports were traditionally published as PDFs. Good for archives, poor for readability and findability. The Council wanted to make their content digital and accessible — for citizens, policymakers and the media. But managed from one central place, not entered all over again three times.

What did ZAAKS! do?

We built a multi-channel publication tool in Umbraco. Content is entered once and delivered automatically to three channels: a website, an RSS feed and a generated PDF. Headless before "headless" was a buzzword. For the first time, this government institution published its research fully digitally.

What does it deliver?

  • One entry point, three output channels: website, RSS and PDF
  • Research available digitally and searchable for the first time
  • More efficient content management: no double work for the editors
  • Future-proof: the architecture makes expansion to new channels straightforward

This was headless when nobody called it that. And it worked.
